Al Basheer Islamic Foundation was established in Phoenix, Arizona by Sayyid Sahib Al-Hassani — a scholar who emigrated from Iraq after years of persecution under the Ba'ath regime, studied advanced Islamic jurisprudence in Syria under some of the most eminent scholars of his era, and was accepted into the United States as a political refugee through the UNHCR.
After arriving in Phoenix, Sayyid Sahib first served as director of Al-Rasool Cultural Center for five years, then as director of the Mosque of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) for six years — building deep roots in Arizona's Muslim community. He then founded Al Basheer Islamic Foundation as a dedicated home for the Shia Muslim community of the Valley.
Al Basheer is not affiliated with any political party, tribal faction, or regional agenda. It follows the line of the Supreme Religious Authority (Marja'iya) and respects all scholarly references of the Shia tradition. Its mission is to present Islam in its purest form — serving the spiritual, educational, and social needs of Twelver Imami Muslims in Phoenix and the surrounding cities, while being a positive, engaged presence for all neighbors in the Valley of the Sun.
